Caravanning Queensland Road Trip – Emerald

Emerald is the hub of the Central Highlands, and a great base for exploring the region. The town has some big attractions including the oversized Van Gough, and the nearby Lake Maraboon (also referred to as Fairbairn Dam) which is three times the size of Sydney Harbour.

You can swim, ski or picnic at the dam, but most people come to test their luck against the eight different species of fish that are stocked in its waters or catch a feed of red claw crayfish.

The green, spacious grounds of Emerald Cabin and Caravan Village have plenty of space to spread out and get comfortable to stay a few nights. It’s right next door to the local golf club, has great, clean facilities, and is only a ten minute walk out of town.
