Gem Fossicking – Bush to Beach Extended Story

Did you catch our recent bush to beach trip with Caravanning Queensland?

Catch our extended story on fossicking as Scotty uncovers a gem or two with Pat’s Gems.

Pat’s Gems at Sapphire is one of the originals, open since 1989.  Pat came up with the concept of a bucket of wash for tourists to fossick and find their own gems.

Here, Pat shows us the special way to wash to bring the sapphires to the middle, how to flip your tray and how to spot a sapphire amongst the stones.  The gems can be blue, green, yellow or parti (which shows two or more colours).

This is a family activity, anyone can do it and Pat’s staff are happy to show you the best way to fossick.

Oh and the best bit? You get to keep what you find!
