Hit the surf at Melbourne airport

Surfers will no longer have to leave Melbourne in search of the perfect, six foot wave. Australia’s first surf park, URBNSURF is set to open near Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport in late 2017, with construction on the project starting in the middle of this year.

The facility will feature a north-south facing lagoon, designed to suit prevailing winds so one side of the lagoon will always deliver quality offshore waves.

URBNSURF plans to open for day and night surfing and will feature a surfing pro-shop allowing customers to “try before they buy”.

There will also be a surfing academy for surfers of all levels as well as innovative group fitness classes.

A licenced café, beach cabanas, skate ramps, playgrounds, rocking climbing and mountain bike pump tracks means there will be plenty of things to do between waves.

The surf park will use technology by Wave Garden and will be similar to the UK’s Surf Snowdonia in North Wales.
