100 Barra in a Day!

Would you believe it if we told you that there was a place in Queensland that you could catch 100 barramundi in a day with not another boat in sight PLUS sleep and eat like kings? Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? Well, it’s all possible with Zulu Game Fishing on the Archer River.

Sitting roughly 200km south of Weipa on Cape York’s Western side, the Archer River stretches from the mouth at Aurukun, a further 250km+ inland. Around every bend of this incredible system sits another snag to toss a lure at. Let us tell you…it’s a tricky river to fish if you try it solo, so we would HIGHLY recommend going with a guide…and there are none better than the team from Zulu Game Fishing. The boat is a beauty, 54 feet of your finest game boat that will sleep you and your 3 best mates in absolute comfort. The boat is normally based out of Port Douglas during the Marlin season, but come May, the team sail it round to play mothership during the Barra season.

Barra gear can be daunting. There are so many lures to try, and each fishery demands a different set of rules. However, we’ve found a few products that you can rely on to find a bite or two.
