BCF lives up to the ‘camping’ element of its name by providing a broad range of tents and equipment that makes being self-sufficient so much simpler. On a recent trip to Fraser Island the Creek to Coast team’s set-up included the Wanderer Mawson Instant Tourer tent, a Wanderer Territory Single Swag, and a nifty Wanderer Gazebo hub. Gary, Cody and the crew also made great use of the Wanderer 12v 4 Bar LED Light Kit, and all sorts of cooking gear, including a Nipper Kipper smoker.
The Cathedrals private campground is a great option for visitors to Fraser Island who want to ‘rough it’ in relative comfort. The alternative is beachside camping that can be booked through the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing. Either way, a four wheel drive permit is required for any vehicles visiting the iconic Queensland holiday destination.
And the all new Holden Colorado makes short work of driving on sand. The Creek to Coast crew took it for a spin up 75 Mile Beach and were impressed by how quiet and smooth a ride it turned out to be. The technology onboard is also pretty remarkable, so it’s worth popping into Motorama Holden at Springwood or Moorooka in Brisbane to check the latest model out.
The number one leisure activity on Fraser is fishing, and while species vary from season to season, you’ll always see anglers wetting a line in gutters along its eastern beach. The BCF store at Gympie is the last stop for anglers before they reach the island.
Manta Ray Fraser Island Barges runs continuous services that depart Inskip Point near Rainbow Beach and land at Hook Point on the bottom end of Fraser Island. They run every day from early morning until late afternoon.
