Every fisherman has a yabby pumping story. Whether it was walking down the beach with family on a weekend afternoon, or maybe resorting to it when the fish weren’t cooperating! There’s a reason that so many people do it, and that’s because it’s dead easy to get into. At the most basic level, all you need is a bait pump and you’re good to go. Though this time, Olivia is changing it up by creating a floating sieve, handy for when there may be a little bit of water sitting on top of the sand flats you want to work!
What you will need:
- Bait sieve
- Pool noodle, cut to fit around sieve
- Zip ties
- Drill – small gauge drill bit (wide enough to fit a zip tie)
- Rope
- Scissors
How to do it:
- Firstly, cut your pool noodle to fit around the rim of your bait sieve
- Drill between six and eight holes around the lip of the bait sieve
- Match the end of the noodle up with the first hole you have drilled, and secure with a zip tie
- Wrap the pool noodle round the sieve and attach the other end with a zip tie first. Doing this allows you to get the perfect alignment of the noodle before going back and securing the rest of the noodle in place.
- Secure rest of noodle with zip ties and trip the tails of them with scissors.
- Tie a rope to the side of the sieve to prevent from floating away – and you’re good to go!
