A Guide to Your First Jet Ski

If you’re taking a jet ski out on the water for the first time, there are a few things you need to be across. It’s essential you know how to operate your personal water craft safely, so we’ve come up with a quick guide to get you started.

Kill Switch

Perhaps the most crucial function on your jet ski is the kill switch. This automatically turns the ski off, if you come off. Ensure the lanyard is attached to your life jacket, so the kill switch is attached to your body.

Fuel Guage

Make sure you’ve checked the fuel gauge before you head out. It should be clearly visible on the display, along with the speedometer. Ensure you have enough fuel to make your journey. Also, familiarize yourself with the display, before you hit the water.

Brakes

Check where your brakes are and if they have any special functions. For example. Seadoo now have an IBR system, which stands for intelligent break and reverse. This allows you to come to a quick stop, and reverse if you need to.

Charging Port and Storage

In case of emergency, you should always have a way to contact VMR. The easiest way to do that, is with your mobile phone. Check where your storage areas are on your personal water craft, and check if they’re waterproof. Some modern PWCs even have charging ports to make sure your phone has enough battery, any time you need it. Just no texting and skiing of course!
