Port Douglas defines everything that Far North Queensland stands for. Heritage listed Rainforest, stunning beaches, vibrant little towns, and of course, big fish and lots of them!
The number of fisheries on offer is nearly endless. Keen fishermen and women can drop a line at the local pontoon at the end of town, take a charter up or down one of the many estuaries, head offshore to chase big reefies or even explore the bigger rivers in the region.
This week, Scotty and good mate Andrew McGrath decide to try the best of both worlds, fishing the stunning Daintree River, then heading offshore to hit up the big the reefs.
Estuary fishing in Far North Queensland means one thing – barra! The boys hook up with Will Pritchard from Fish Hunter FNQ to target the iconic species. With gold bombers at the ready, the guys come away with a handful of good fish.
Dragon Lady Charters come highly recommended as one of the better offshore charters going round up north. With a nack for nannies, and a hunger for trout, the crew help Macca and Scotty onto some awesome reefies across two days of rod bending action.
Of course, you’re going to need to kit yourself for your North Queensland fishing mission. Head to your local BCF for all the gear you will need, including the barra-finding bomber, and all the gear for the perfect patanosta to bring up that big reefie.
All the information you will need to book a session with Fish Hunter FNQ is here or for Dragon Lady Port Douglas is here. Head out and try it yourself, you won’t regret it!
