Caravanning Queensland Road Trip – Carnarvon Gorge

Takarakka Bush Resort is the only caravan park within coo-ee of one of Queensland’s best natural attractions, Carnarvon National Park.

It covers 100 acres of pristine parkland, and that’s before you even reach the gorge. Park guests share the site with the abundance of wildlife that spills out of the gorge – kookaburras, wallabies, platypus, and echidnas are all easy to spot.

Of course, Takarraka’s biggest appeal is its proximity to Carnarvon Gorge. With kilometres of walking tracks that snake through lush rainforest, over creeks, and into hidden rock chambers, the Gorge offers a stark contrast of greenery to the rugged outback landscape.

This is Queensland’s most visited National Park for good reason.

You can explore the Gorge solo, or go with a guide from Takarakka Bush Resort. The park also holds information sessions for guests every night.

The nearest towns are both over 100km away at Rolleston and Injune, so a stay at Takarakka requires you to be self-sufficient (though groceries can be bought from the head office). Make sure you have enough fuel for the return journey.

Takarakka Bush Resort has a broad range of accommodation choices; from van and tent sites, to safari tents and picturesque studio options.
