Flames, Smoke and Noise Rocket event in Logan

Getting outdoors with your kids is always a great way to spend a weekend. And if they’re a fan of flames, smoke and noise–there’s an event you need to hear about!

‘Flames, Smoke and Noise’ is a public open day for amateur rocketeers, held in the City of Logan. Model rockets blast off throughout the day at the designated launch site in Cedar Grove, about 15 kilometres south of Jimboomba. The site allows rocketeers to launch up to 5,000 feet, so it’s definitely a spectacle to see!

The event is hosted by the Queensland Rockery Society, a club formed 12 years ago by five rocketry enthusiasts. Spectators can get up close to experience the excitement of rockets being launched, or better yet–they can launch one themselves!

It’s Rocket Science uses two simple elements–water and air–to launch their rockets and they’re suitable for all ages!

“What we do conceptually is very simple,” Cran Middlecoat from ‘It’s Rocket Science’ explained. “But we bring it all to the schools, so the kids use it and they can build their own rockets. We just pump air into it, and the air forces the water out, creating that action force. As Isaac Newtown said: ‘For every action, there’s always a reaction’ and that’s your forward flight.”

Flames, Smoke, and Noise is a fantastic event that the whole family can enjoy! The next launch day is on Sunday the 20th of October 2019. If you’re looking for more events happening in the City of Logan, check out the 2019-2020 events calendar here.
