Did you know that in the past 10 years, Queensland has been hit by more than 90 natural disasters?!
Another season of wild weather is just around the corner so the team at the Queensland Reconstruction Authority are urging us Queenslanders to Get Ready!
A couple of things to consider – do you have an Emergency Kit? It can be as simple as a plastic box with all the essentials in it if you are affected by wild weather. Torches, batteries, bottled water, non-perishable snacks and a first aid kit are all vital. Other things like portable charges for devices are worthwhile as well.
Another tip is to have an evacuation plan. Particularly if you live in an area that is known to be susceptible to natural disasters.
We sent Get Read Queensland ambassador and Channel Seven weather man Tony Auden down to a local Brisbane Café that has just re-opened after the floods at the start of the year.
Tass Maniatis is the owner of the Frog N’ Toad.
“Our goal is to be back open in 24hrs of the water receding, everything is on wheels, all our fridges are on wheels, basically the evacuation plan is we open the doors and just wheel out wheel up the street,” Tass says.
