The secret’s out – caravans are in! Last year, Queenslanders saw more than 20,000 new caravans hit the roads, bringing the total number of registrations to nearly a quarter of a million! That’s a lot of new drivers learning the ins and outs of towing a van!
If you’re feeling like a fish out of water with your new rig, the team at Caravanning Queensland run an initiative that’ll be sure to send you safely on your way.
VANSafe is a free weight and safety check for caravan, camper trailer and motorhome owners. The inspections are designed to ensure each driver understands the challenges they might face on the roads, whilst making sure they are better equipped to avoid accidents. Sessions include caravan weight and safety inspections, a weight and towing masterclass, towing and safety product displays, as well as expert advice.
“It’s about ensuring our customers are safe, compliant and that their weights are correct, that’s what it’s about,” explained Krisi Murphy from Caravanning Queensland.
“We want to be able to make sure that they can get on the road, and travel safely and happily on that journey.”
The beauty of VANSafe is that it’s a 100% educational exercise, with no fines or breaches issued if you happen to be non-compliant. Some more good news is that they’re run in various locations around the southeast, up to Cairns and even as far west as Charleville, so you’re bound to find one near you.
There’s a wonderful sense of freedom when you hit the road with an RV and this is a great way to make sure you’ve got peace of mind while doing so!
