Exploring the rugged terrain of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland

Avoiding the green, the easiest route, they prepared to tackle even tougher paths if needed. The drive was helmed by Josh Collins, an expert in off-road adventures, navigating in his customized 1995 75 series Land Cruiser. Despite its age and tractor-like pace, the vehicle had been transformed with extensive modifications, ready to handle any challenge.

The trip commenced with a steep section, requiring careful gear management and light braking to avoid skidding. Josh guided the driver through the terrain, praising their natural aptitude for the blue track. As an ambassador for XTM, a brand known for its rugged gear, Josh ensured they were well-equipped with recovery tools, including snap straps, kinetic ropes, and a winch.

Emphasising the importance of safety, Josh highlighted the necessity of traveling with a companion for assistance in tricky situations. Their current spot proved more challenging than anticipated, but with the proper gear, they confidently navigated the obstacles. The driver’s preference for an automatic vehicle over a manual one became evident, appreciating the ease and nostalgia of wind-down windows.

Continuing their journey on the Somerset Western track in the D’Aguilar National Park, they reached a scenic lookout, offering a breathtaking view from within a cloud. The panoramic vista cemented the driver’s enthusiasm for the adventure.

As the day transitioned to evening, the group set up camp, lighting a fire and preparing dinner using the latest XTM equipment in the back of Josh’s canopy. This mobile kitchen featured a comprehensive 12-volt system, providing ample power for lights, phone charging, and a fridge. The setup included a drawer filled with essential cooking tools, ensuring they had everything needed for a comfortable and convenient camping experience.

Dinner, a campfire classic, showcased perfectly cooked camp potatoes. With the addition of a touch of salt, the meal was deemed the best camp potatoes ever, achieving a fluffy texture that impressed everyone.

As the sun set, the adventurers reflected on a day filled with thrilling off-road experiences, stunning views, and the satisfaction of a well-prepared meal in the great outdoors.
