Paddling the Pristine Pumicestone Passage

South East Queensland offers a plethora of pristine places to enjoy a day out on the water. Pumicestone Passage is no exception. With little peaceful pockets of beach to pull up on, this is a perfect spot for a paddle.

Golden Beach is a great spot to start. Bill’s Boat Hire will gear you up with whatever you need to start exploring. Head along on a short paddle to the northern tip of Bribie Island, where you can enjoy a picnic, bird watch or just enjoy the peace and quiet. The closeness to the mainland offers security for beginners and families, not wanting to venture too far from civilization.

You won’t be the only ones enjoying the water though. From the sea to the skies, the wildlife here is incredibly diverse.  24 species of migratory birds call the passage home. Watch the birds dive into the water to catch fish, or if you’re lucky, you might even spot a stingray or two.

When you’ve worked up an appetite, it’s only a quick trip back to the mainland. Seafood Market @ Caloundra offers a fresh selection of seafood, and delicious fish and chips.

When visiting places as spectacular as this, it’s important to keep them clean and tidy. Make sure you return your cans from your lunch. It’s made simple by Containers for Change. Just visit one of the refund points, to get 10 cents back for every container.
