Picking the right boat for you

We know a lot of our viewers dream of owning a boat. We can’t blame you! If you’re one of the lucky people who are looking to purchase your first watercraft, there’s a few things we think you should consider before you buy.

What are you using it for?

Like any large purchase, you want to be certain of your decision. Boats are no different. The first thing you want to consider when you’re buying, is what you’re using it for. If you just want to spend your Sunday mornings fishing your local waterways, a tinnie will probably get you by. If you’ve got five kids, you’re probably better off with something a bit bigger. You might opt for a cabin so you can get a bit of shelter while you’re out on the water. If you’re unsure, you can always chat to your local dealerships, like the team at Wynnum Marine.

How are you towing it?

Check your car’s towing capacity before you make any purchases. Consider the cost of adding a towbar if you don’t already have one.

Think about storage

If you plan on storing your boat at home, check the size of the boat, and your storage area. It might sound silly, but you don’t want to buy a boat, take it home, only to realise it doesn’t fit in the garage.

If you want to store it in a dry stack at your local marina, consider the price of storage. You want to account for that as part of the ongoing cost of owning your beautiful new boat.

When you’ve decided on the perfect boat, Youi will help you find the perfect policy to protect it.
