Rig Recycling

In partnership with two Australian charities, Tangaroa Blue Foundation and OzFish Unlimited a new recycling initiative is underway allowing recreational fishers to recycle their unwanted tackle easily. BCF are also onboard by hosting the bins in their Queensland stores as a drop-off location for anglers across the sunshine state. The recycling bins are the first of their kind in Australia and recreational fishers are encouraged to drop in their old lures, sinkers, swivels, floats and line.

The discarded fishing gear is then sorted to be reused or recycled. The reused gear, after being refurbished, finds a second life in tackle boxes that are donated to likeminded charity groups so that less fortunate fishers can still enjoy the sport. The great new concept is an initiative developed by ReefClean to tackle litter in the Great Barrier Reef and the program’s expansion has been made possible with funding from the Queensland Government’s Community Sustainability Action Grants Program.

It’s a great way to keep disused fishing gear out of our waterways and out of landfill.
