Securing your Personal Water Craft

Have you got your sights set on buying a jet ski? We can’t blame you, they’re pretty fun. So, we’ve put together some tips for first-time owners.

Kill Switch

All modern skis have a kill switch. That means, if you fall off, your ski will stop. That way you can swim back to the jet ski and hop back on. Just make sure your it is attached to your life jacket, so it does disconnect from the ski if you come off.

Key

Another thing you want to always keep on you, is the key. These days, personal water craft keys are programmed to only work on your specific ski. So, if you’re island hopping, you can go for a walk and leave your ski, with a bit of peace of mind that no one can easily hop on your jet ski and take off. The only catch? you want to be very careful not to lose it.

Trailer

You might be really excited to use your new toy, but it is important not to forget to look after your trailer. Before you can enjoy a day on the water, you need to get your personal water craft down the boat ramp. When you are reversing your ski into the water, make sure you have the safety chain on. If it isn’t, and the reverse buckle on the winch is undone, the jet ski is going to fall straight off onto the boat ramp. Once you’re ready to leave the boat ramp, make sure your car and trailer are locked, before you head out.

One last key thing to consider before getting your own jet ski, is insurance! Get in touch with Youi to find cover that suits you.
