Never before have we realised just how important it is that we get outdoors in the fresh air, amongst nature.
Not only is that good for our mental health, but it also allows us to support small businesses like Swan Boat Hire in Maroochydore.
The family-owned and run business is a bit of a landmark on the banks of the pretty Maroochy River. It’s run by father-son duo, Mark and Matt Planck.
“You can still hire boats and you can hire watercraft, paddle craft, stand-up paddleboards and kayaks, as long as you follow the health department’s regulations,” said Matt. “But the stand-up paddleboards and kayaks are perfect for that, plenty of social distancing there.”
Swan Boat Hire has quite the history around these parts. Setting up shop in 1996 (yes that’s almost 25 YEARS ago!) they set sail with just five fibreglass boats and two kayaks.
In 2018, they moved from bricks and mortar to the van and where they operate today. Whether you fancy a fish, a BBQ or a paddle – the hire fleet boasts 25 boats as well as a flurry of fun water-craft.
“We have everything from stand up paddleboards, single and double kayaks, we have a whole range of smaller fishing boats, as well as the pontoon barbecue boats,” Matt said.
The Maroochy River is a well-known fishing haunt with the main catch being Bream, Whiting and Flathead.
Matt and Mark can sort you out with bait too… and snacks or coffee.
