Exploring Moreton Island: The Ultimate Off-Grid Adventure

There’s nothing like the excitement of a weekend getaway, especially when it involves jumping on the ferry with your mates for a fishing and camping trip. Just 25km from Brisbane’s shoreline lies Moreton Island, an adventurer’s playground with crystal-clear waters, abundant wildlife, and steep sand dunes waiting to be explored.

Moreton Island, the third-largest sand island in the world, offers an incredible backdrop for beach driving, fishing, and camping. With caravans in tow, a group of us set out to test the latest range from Brisbane Camperland, aiming to blend daytime adventures with nighttime comfort.

Craig McLennan, Sales Manager at Brisbane Camperland, highlights the appeal of their Lark Camper trailer. Growing up with tents and swags, he appreciates the next step up for those looking to elevate their camping experience. The Lark Camper offers insulated roofs, comfortable beds, cupboards, a fridge, and a stove, all compactly fitting into a trailer that’s easy to tow and set up in just five minutes.

Moreton Island’s remoteness is part of its charm. With endless sand tracks, it feels like a million miles from anywhere. In Bulwer, on the island’s western side, Castaways serves as the island’s general store and cafe. Owned by Belinda and her husband, Castaways has everything you need for your getaway, from essentials to what might just be the best burger in Australia.

The island itself is stunning, reminiscent of the Whitsundays with its clear waters and natural beauty, just an hour from Brisbane. It’s hard to believe such a paradise is so close to the city. The afternoon quickly arrived, and it was time for some fishing with the team, including Brisbane Camperland ambassadors, ex-cricketers Michael Kasprowicz and Darren Lehman, and former league players Andrew Gee and Craig Greenhill.

Moreton Island is a prime location for RV enthusiasts. Jayco’s latest caravan, an off-grid monster, was part of our adventure. Shawn Price, General Manager at Brisbane Camperland, explained how this 22-foot all-terrain vehicle can go off-grid for up to three days, making it perfect for exploring remote locations. The caravan includes a double front queen bed, dual bunks, a full ensuite, and complete cooking facilities, making it a comfortable home away from home.

Brisbane Camperland recently joined forces with Bartons Automotive Group, offering a comprehensive range of services from vehicles to RVs and Jayco Insurance. Their focus on after-sales service has earned them the National Service Dealer of the Year award for three consecutive years.

With over 40 kilometers of untouched coastline, Moreton Island boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. Activities like beach worming can be both fun and frustrating, as cricket legends Kasprowicz and Lehman discovered. Despite their challenges, they appreciated the comfort and convenience of modern caravans.

Touring Moreton Island with Brisbane Camperland and their ambassadors was an unforgettable experience. If you’re considering a new RV or an upgrade, we highly recommend a Jayco.
