Camper Trailer are fast-becoming the go to option for those wanting to take their first steps into the RV industry. Young couples, families, or even older generations will all see benefit from a camper trailer. But, as Scott says, “there are camper trailers and there are camper trailers.”
We enlisted the help of Chris Lagas from Stoney Creek Campers to provide a bit of clarity on the issue.
“First thing I like to do is qualify the customer in terms of, what are their requirements in a camper, do they have kids, do they not have kids, do they have fur babies, work out from there their tow vehicle restrictions.
That is the biggest one of all, you can’t be towing something that is not capable for your vehicle.”
Chris also recommends considering what you will use the camper trailer for. Will it be a bit of a weekender, maybe the odd beach trip, or will it be used for a big lap around the country, or maybe harder 4×4 tracks. This will impact what trailer you should get.
“There’s many different types. Soft floor, rear fold forward fold dual fold. At Stoney Creek we only operate on a forward fold basis because they are super quick, super easy. You’re up off the ground, uneven ground they are perfect. From there you can go for a 6 berth or a 4 berth.”
Scott asks, “and I guess too looking at a camper trailer people go they’re so small and compact as you can see behind us…”
“It’s quite the opposite,” says Chris.
“Everything from a kitchen, a fridge, water tanks, hot water, it’s got the lot.”
