Winter Camping with Roothy

Find out what happened to Milo 2, a ‘roll over’… don’t worry both Karen and Roothy were a little bruised, but ok. Milo 2 had to have a few repairs but now it’s time to take her on a run and what better way for her to stretch her wheels then to go winter camping! And if you want Jack Frost nipping at your nose, we advise you head south, about 223 km or over three and half hours from Brisbane.

On BCF’s website check out Youcamp, where you can find your own private campsite… it’s like an Airbnb service with rural private properties open to campers who may want to pitch their tent beside a babbling creek or see what life is like on a farm.

We set up camp at the Clarence River Wilderness Lodge, a beautiful setting, and if you forget your tent you can also stay in their comfortable cabins with access to the camp kitchen that has everything you need with a real country feel.

This trip we are full winter camping. Roothy and Jason have all the tips and tricks of how to set up a comfortable site – it’s that easy. Roothy has the billy boiling in no time while Jason has his espresso machine… and a NISSAN! You can get all the gear from BCF (except the Nissan).

One of the best aspects of camping is that it is a great base to go out and explore the area. If you are down this way, it is worth a stop in Tenterfield, a beautiful federation town and home of the Tenterfield Sadler, a song penned and performed by Peter Allen, Hugh Jackman played Peter Allen in The Boy from Oz. The tale of the Tenterfield Sadler is the story of Peter’s grandfather and the family.  Did you know that Peter Allen was discovered by Judy Garland and he later married her daughter Liza Minnelli? You might also know his song ‘I go to Rio’, we didn’t go to Rio this trip, just Tenterfield.

If you want to try the best scones and clotted cream you must visit the Bohmemian Tea Room Café, the café owners are as delightful as their cakes!
