Highlights of the 2019 Kurrimine Beach Fishing Competition

Kurrimine Beach, in the Cassowary Coast region, is a sleepy little spot nestled halfway between Townsville and Cairns. It’s where the lush green rainforest meets the vibrant blues of the beach… and come September each year, this little community goes into fishing overdrive!

The Kurrimine Beach Fishing Competition attracts thousands for two days of famous fishing, spearing and crayfish catching… and it’s a little bit different to your average when launching your boat by tractor is standard.

One of the best things about Kurrimine is that it’s a mecca for crayfish. Being the closest reef on the eastern seaboard means it’s not hard to get out… it also means it’s one of the few fishing comps to have a crayfish category, with your average weighing in at two to three kilos (depending on the time of the year).

And with plenty of action brewing off the reef and up the creek, it certainly draws the crowds when a boat is up for grabs, and not just for one, but for two people… plus more! We mean, you couldn’t say “yeah nah” when there’s over $120,000 in giveaways and sponsorships… it’s a complete must do for the keen angler or any fishing family. So if you’re thinking of planning a trip for next year’s comp, head to the Kurrimine Beach Fishing Club’s website — it promises to be bigger and better than the last!
