Why should the blokes have all the fun?! Shara Van Haeren, along with her partner Robbie, started the WTF in 2012….yes you read that correctly.
The “Women that Fish Barra Classic” (WTF for short) is an annual competiton that sees dozens of local lasses take to the Fitzroy River in the hope of landing the biggest barra possible. It’s not all doom and gloom for the guys though, gents are still more than welcome to be part of the girl’s teams, however it’s only the ladies fish that are measured.
Last year saw 45 teams compete in the classic, a great number for a little local competition!

If you’re thinking about tackling the competition, or even just fishing the Fitzroy, head into your local BCF. Each river you fish has its own little tricks to it, so it’s always worth asking the guys in store for a bit of guidance.
I’d recommend a stay at the Empire Apartments, literally metres from the river! The self contained rooms are very tidy and comfy, and will set you up perfectly for a week…or longer…in Rocky.
