The team from Make-A-Wish have been putting smiles on the faces of children in need of cheering up since 1985. So when we heard there was a Creek to Coast super fan in need of cheering up, we couldn’t wait to help out.
Tristan is a young kid hailing from the Sunny Coast who has gone through a rough trot recently. He LOVES his fishing and all things outdoors, so Make-A-Wish thought it would be perfect to send him and his family up to Hamilton Island at the end of the year, so Tristan can have a crack at a few North Queensland monsters.
In the meantime, we thought it would be best to prepare Tristan for his fishing adventure, by kitting him out at BCF and skilling him up on the Maroochy River.
Tristan and his Dad, Charlie, have caught plenty of bream in their time, but a Flathead would be a first for Tristan! So our mate Cameron from Swan Boat Hire found a beautiful bank on a changing tide on the Maroochy and hooked him up!
For creek creeping missions like this one, a lighter setup suited Tristan perfectly. Northing over a 6kg rated rod and a reel around 2500 size was perfect. That way you will still have plenty of feel when fighting a smaller fish, but the security of being able to muscle something slightly bigger. The great guys at BCF Maroochydore helped us deck Tristan out with a new fishing wardrobe, couple of new setups and a bag full of plastics to try out up north.
