How to support a worthy cause

The Maroochydore River on the Sunshine Coast is often a popular pick for first-time anglers. The calm waters are home to many bread-and-butter species that are perfect for beginners. And if you don’t have a boat, don’t stress! Swan Boat Hire have plenty of vessels to choose from.

Carefree days out on the water are a real gift to the Reed family, who rarely get to enjoy quality time together.

“Lachlan was born with chronic kidney disease, so he’s got cysts all through both of his kidneys,” explained his mum, Rebecca.

“Then at 4 months of age he went into end stage renal failure and has been on dialysis ever since.”

The Reeds live in Toowoomba, so the services provided by Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) have been a real lifeline. The charity was created to help the families of serious ill or injured children by providing safe and secure accommodation that keeps the families together.

But RMHC provides much more than just a roof over their heads. Money raised goes towards a range of family support including meals, recreation rooms, learning programs, travel to and from appointments and much more.

So how can you help? Well, it’s as easy as buying a cup of coffee. McDonald’s Queensland and Northern Territory restaurants have a goal of raising $1 million a year through 10c large McCafe coffee donations. So, they next time you’re in need of a cuppa, why not size up to a large and get behind this worthy cause.
