Boat Trailer Refurb

Over the years Gary has shown viewers plenty of tips and techniques on how to keep your boat, motor and trailer in good order. Gary likes to call it preventative maintenance. This week Gary was doing it for real on his own boat and trailer in his shed.

To make sure the nuts and bolts on the trailer don’t rust, Gary uses anti-seize lubricants from Loctite. That makes getting the nuts and bolts off for maintenance super easy. Even if they’ve been on for years.

After Gary has removed surface corrosion from the trailer and cleaned it, he uses a range of products to recoat it with so it lasts many more years with minimal rust. Products include Tectyl 506 Heavy Duty Rust Preventative, INOX, Silicone Protectant and Lubricant, White Knight Rust Guard COLD GAL (SILVERFOST) and two pack paints when touch ups and painting may be needed.

To protect the interior steel on the trailer which is exposed to water, Gary uses fisholene or fish oil. He uses a compressor to blow it all the way through the frame.
