Mackay Tourism and Seaforth Fishing

They call it the gateway to Queensland’s vibrant tropical north. The Mackay Region covers a bit over seven and a half thousand square kilometres of the east coast of Australia, and it all starts in the little town of Sarina, and a precinct called the Field of Dreams.

Motorists will be hard pressed to miss the big open green space as they drive in, coming north from Rockhampton. The Field of Dreams is the perfect place to start a journey through the Mackay region. It is home to the local art gallery, museum, beautiful new Visitor’s Information Centre, and the hugely popular, Sarina Sugar Shed.

For the fishos amongst us, the Mackay Region offers a huge range of fishing opportunities. Cruise up an estuary to target the bread and butter species, head out deep and chase the big reefies and pelagics, or head out to one of the many islands that are scattered offshore, to have a go at landing the iconic GT.

Paul Dolan from Mackay Fly and Sportfishing is your man for this. He has unbridled experience when it comes to chasing these big brutes, and will step you through each step of the capture. While in town, check out the Oaks Rivermarque… it’s the perfect place to base yourself. BCF should be your first stop to gear up to fish the Mackay Region.
