Every year the Charleville Fishing & Restocking Club encourage fisher-persons of all ages, sex, race or disability to take part in a fun, social, family orientated events.
There is an upcoming fishing competition, “Smith Family Cod Classic” at 7 pm on the 29th March until 10 am on the 2nd April (Easter weekend). The event helps to teach people the importance of safe fishing practices and knowledge about native fish to help with the eradication of the noxious species, carp; this is to help ensure that our river systems are sustainable well into the future so that our future generations can still experience what we do today.
Money raised from the event goes towards the purchase of fingerlings, which are released into local waterways to help increase the population of our native freshwater fish. In January 2017 over 30,000 yellowbelly and 300 catfish were released, bringing the total over the last 26 years to 512,900 yellowbelly, 52,300 cod and 300 catfish released into our local waterways!
We would love to see you all at the Smith Family Cod Classic to drop a line and have a yarn with some like-minded people, all while working towards a great goal, keeping our waterways free of invasive species! There is also over $10,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs, as well as live entertainment and a bar/canteen.
