Tips for Bagging a Bass

While we all love our offshore fishing, it’s often the case that if you head inland to a few of our freshwater systems, the fisheries you can discover are just as exciting.

Australian Bass a prevalent up and down the freshwater systems of the East Coast. While they can be a bit tricky to catch, the reward is definitely worth the effort.

Scotty recently caught up with Brent from the BCF Superstore in Kawana. Brent loves his fishing…particularly his sport fishing. Which he thinks Bass fishing certainly comes under that category.

It all starts with your lure selection.

“Schooling up I find vibes the most productive way. So it’s a long cast out sink it down. Often, you’ll find them on the sounder, stacked up in a big school and just slow hops.” Brent says.

Brent also recommends having a few spinner baits in your Bass tackle bag. “Old Faithful” he calls them.

Once you’ve got your lures sorted, it’s down to rod and reel selection.

“One option is your Vanford with a 2-5kilo rod with a 2500 size reel again 10 pound braid on that.”

“Second to that is a 3-6kilo bait caster with that 150size bait caster reel nice and light. That’s good for your jerk baits and that sort of thing. You can really work your lure a bit more with that…and use this for your plastics and blades.”

From jigs and spinner baits, to your spin and baitcaster setups, BCF should be your first stop, before any Bass mission.
