Discovering Sandstone Point

It’s the gateway to Bribie Island, with views to Moreton Bay, sheltered waters great for swimming and some seriously stellar boating and fishing, too.

Sandstone Point is on the southern end of Pumicestone Passage, and while it’s no secret the other side of the bridge is well-known for adventure… there are just as many options if you want to stay on the mainland.

First up, there’s plenty to do on the water. You can hire a stand-up paddle board, kayak, small boat or even house boat from Bribie Passage Kiosk and Boat Hire. They have plenty of fishing gear, too.

For something a little on the faster side, Moreton Bay Jetski Hire in Spinnaker Sound Marina certainly has the horsepower! They offer eco tours around the passage and regularly meet local marine life like dolphins, dugongs and turtles.

One of the area’s greatest advantages lies in its location. Not only is it the access point over to Bribie Island, but it’s smack bang in between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, making it a great spot to base yourself if you’re wanting to explore the southeast.

If that’s the case, you’ll need somewhere to stay, and the local Big 4 Holiday Park has plenty of options. There are villas, safari tents and camping or caravan sites, all with everything from water to garden views. For a special treat, head to the jetty and oyster shed at the Sandstone Point Hotel.
