Action off Rainbow Beach!

We love our topwater fishing. The action, energy and excitement of a surface strike is addictive.

While there are a load of spots in our great state where fish go off on a topwater lure, Rainbow Beach, just three hours from Brisbane, has to be one of the closest spots that you’re nearly GUARANTEED action (did we just use the G word?!?)

The reason? Rainbow Beach and Fraser Island have superb current movement around them. The current brings in big schools of bait, which in turn, lure in the big Mackerel, Tuna and Wahoo that LOVE to smash a popper or stickbait.

There are PLENTY of topwater options on the shelves at your local BCF. Can we recommend you take a stroll down the Nomad aisle. The hooks that the team put on their lures are all strong AF! Plus their built by a team who made their name on topwater fishing.

We can recommend the Riptide, Chug Norris…and for a bit of fun, the fast retrieving Dart Wing!

Here’s a tip, best grab a couple of different profiles of stickbaits. While Mackerel and Wahoo may go for the bigger sizes, they may not commit to a bite. The smaller lures sometimes entice an eat if the fish are fussy and you have the added possibility of jagging any number of tuna species.
