Cairns to Karumba Road Trip

The Savannah Way is a popular way to explore the rugged beauty of North Queensland. It runs from Cairns to Broome in Western Australia. For those wishing to stick inside Queensland’s borders, the Cairns to Karumba drive is a great one.

The journey is over 700kms so you’ll need a vehicle that’s up to the challenge but doesn’t skimp on the creature comforts. That’s where Apollo Motorhome Holidays come in. They offer a range of vehicles from 4WD campers, campervans, to 6 berth motorhomes.

A terrific natural attraction along the Savannah Way is the Undara Experience. It’s home to one of the largest lava tube system on planet Earth dating back 190,000 years. Guided tours are available.

A great place to stay is nearby at Mt Surprise. The Bedrock Village Caravan Park offers 35 air-conditioned ensuite cabins, 75 drive through powered sites and 30 lawned spots for tents. There’s also a general store, swimming pool, mini-golf, great amenities and free internet!

The little town of Croydon is also a popular destination, thanks to its charming heritage precinct, the great fishing at Lake Belmore and the convenient accommodation at the Croydon Caravan Park. The park has 22 rooms and cabins, and 49 powered sites.

In nearby Karumba, the number one caravan park is the Karumba Point Sunset Caravan Park. It’s right near the water and boat ramp and offers plenty of space for powered and powered campers and has cosy villas with all the creature comforts. It’s a family and pet-friendly park and the managers can organize a range of tours that explore the local region.

The biggest tourist attraction in town is the Les Wilson Barramundi Discovery Centre. It’s a state of the art interpretive centre where visitors can learn all about the species, do live feeding and even throw a line into the pond to catch and release a few. The centre also does live breeding to help restock local dams and waterways.

The Caravanning Queensland website is a great resource for learning all there is to know about the lifestyle, the parks and everything to see and do in our great state.
