There’s nothing like fishing your local

All fishos have a local spot. It may not always fire, but it’s like a comfy blanket. You know what to expect, when to expect it…and normally it’s a good time.

We’ve traveled a fair chunk of Australia, and indeed the world on Creek to Coast, but Scott reckons there’s nothing like going back to his favourite local, Marcoola Beach.

During the warmer months, most SEQ beaches get a nice run of Whiting…and catching them is simple and a great activity for the kids.

Catch yourself a few beach worms, or yabbies and hook them on to a smaller, long shank hook. That hook can be tied to some light mono (no more than 10 pound) followed by a swivel, then a size 2-3 running ball sinker. Scott’s tip – add a bit of red tubing above the hook. Some say it works to attract the whiting, others say not. But when you’re catching whiting hand over fist at your local, we think something must be working!

BCF will have you kitted out to tackle a few warm water whiting in no time. You can check out a range of gear here…or why not stop instore to suss it all out in person.
