Gary’s Boat Maintenance Tips

As the saying goes, if you love something, you look after it. Boaties are certainly no exception.  That’s why it’s important to maintain your boat at home.

Wash your boat

Over time, salt water can damage your boat. Make sure you wash your vessel after a day out in the water. This will keep it looking good for longer, and working better for years to come.

Check your outboard

Spraying Inox on your outboard will help protect the metal surfaces from corroding. It creates a film that will stop the salt water from causing damage. While you’re looking at the outboard, you should do a visual inspection, to make sure everything looks in order. While you’re there, check your propeller for any damage.

Fuel filter and water separator

Make sure you release any water from your water separator. Just unscrew the valve under the tank and let it out.

Check your accessories

It’s good to check your accessories are in working order, while you’re at home. This way you won’t get caught off guard out on the water. This means checking your GPS, sounder, radio, lights and windscreen wipers.

Fighting mould

Accumulated water can cause mould to grow inside your boat. If you notice any mould, you can wipe down your boat with Exit Mould.

Anchor ropes

Anchor ropes can deteriorate over time. Before heading out on the water, make sure yours are in good condition.

Professional Servicing

While home maintenance is key to keeping your boat in good nick, you still need to take it in for a service. Roughly every 100 hours, take your boat into an authorised marine dealer, for a professional look over.
