Jigging off Port Douglas with a world record holder

Would you believe it if we told you that Queensland is the home of one of the world’s BEST female spearfishos?

Erin McGinty has shot fish that some people go their entire lives without even seeing! A Marine Biologist by trade, Erin’s love of the water developed as a young girl, catching crays on school holidays with her dad and brother over in WA.

Nowadays, she calls Cairns home and sneaks out to the reef every chance she can.

When she’s not behind a spear, she also goes alright on a rod! Scotty took a trip with her out of Port Douglas and put the Nomad Squidtrex through its paces. Fishing a few wonky holes, they come up with a couple of good size Cobia, and one trophy Nannygai!

Jigging can be a bit tricky to get the hang of, so if you’re new to it, best head instore to your local BCF to suss out the jigs on offer, and have a yarn with the team instore to chat about how to work them.
