THREE DAYS OF SPEED!
The roaring Pittsworth Sprints have the usually peaceful suburban streets of Pittsworth transformed into a single car street race during the first weekend of every September.
With three cars on the track at any one time, any sort of car can enter after undergoing scrutineering.
The winner is the fastest time in a run over the weekend with most drivers aiming to beat their own time each run.
This annual event has had people here all revved up for over two decades.
For many years, Phil Sutcliffe and his 2010 Nissan GTR have dominated this race. They launch around the 1.4 kilometre track in 48 seconds.
And the secret to becoming the Pittsworth Sprints long running champion? Driver training.
“It’s the best money I’ve ever spent,” said Phil. “It’s a lot cheaper than any engine or gearbox modifications and much more valuable.”
The races start from 9am and run through till 4pm, but that’s not when the show stops… in fact you might even say that’s when things heat up with the all-important burn outs!!
Pittsworth is located in the heart of the Darling Downs, about 30 minutes from Toowoomba.
