Where to find Australia’s Best Beer

Whether it be an IPA, brown or pale ale… over the last few years, craft beer has come a long way! And just recently, a popular Sunshine Coast beachside brewery took out the official title of Australia’s best… the man to thank is Matt Wilson!

“Our summer ale won Champion Session Beer, then it went on to get Grand Champion Beer of the whole competition,” Matt said.

Taking out not one, but four awards in total, their Hazed and Confused IPA, a relatively new beer style which originated in the New England Region of America on the East Coast, also took out Champion IPA. Moffat Beach Brewing Co. also won the Champion Brewpub award – the champion brewery in their class.

“All of the judging was blind. So, the judges don’t know where the beers come from. They know that it’s a pale ale or an IPA, or whatever, and the beers are presented to them, then they smell and sip… tough job for them, I know. And then they mark it out of a possible score of 20. To get a gold medal, you have to get a score of 17 and over, and we scored 19 for this one.”

So how do you make “Australia’s best beer”? Well, the whole process from grain to glass takes about three weeks… and at Moffat Beach Brewing Co. the magic happens just a few footsteps from the bar! It’s here you can also grab yourself a pretty mean feed, with their restaurant operating 7 days a week. So, do yourself a favour… when the time is right to plan a road trip, put Australia’s best beer on your list and head to Moffat Beach for the day, or weekend.

And while we all know any good beverage goes down with a stellar feed, here’s a list of where you can find the best parmi, the biggest burgers and our favourite pies in Queensland and across Australia:
