Women hitting the waves in droves!

How’s this for a stat – since COVID, more than 200,000 women and girls have picked up a board and given surfing a go. Absolutely amazing. It’s a fact that the likes of Adam Yates is very proud of. He’s the CEO of Surfing Queensland.

“I guess it starts at grass roots just entering the sport all the way through to the elite!”

“…and I think it comes from the pedigree we have. People like Lane Beachley 7 world titles, We’ve got Steph Gilmore 8 world titles…and now we’ve got a range of junior talent coming through so we really do have this amazing pathway for athletes and they’re getting the results.”

Because of this, Surfing Queensland have recently introduced a load of new events and initiatives. Free events like Surf Sisters encourage women of all abilities to come and give surfing a go.

As well as female-focused events, Surfing Queensland has a raft of activities on all year round. Check them out online to get the full rundown.
